Why This Site Exists

Roanoke does not have one official roll of every person who lives in the city. Records are separated by purpose and custodian. The city GIS identifies parcels and current owners, recorded instruments belong with the Roanoke City Clerk of Circuit Court / Land Records, and historical names and addresses appear in Virginia Room directories. Roanoke's independent-city status also matters: a postal “Roanoke” address can fall outside city jurisdiction. This reference gathers office routes, collection coverage, and access limits so a search can begin with the right custodian.
